Croken surname. Dunraymond, Monaghan

Good Morning,

My name is Danny Gillis and Im in search of potential family over in ireland, specifically Monaghan. I have traced my mothers family back to Dunraymond, Monaghan. Her maiden name was Croken. Its not a common Irish last name, but Ive also seen it being a variant of Croakin, and Corrigan. I am planning a visit to the beautiful homeland soon and I would love to meet some distant relatives of mine. I am from Boston, where the Irish roots run deep. I hope to hear back soon. Slainte.

Hi Danny:

I would recommend that you pay a visit to the Local History Section of the Monaghan Library at Clones for your Monaghan research.  There is a very helpful librarian there who will be able to assist you with your search.  The link to the library is here:  https://monaghan.ie/library/local-history/

In the meantime, I had a look at the surnames (including variants) for Croken on Roots Ireland and I see that in County Monaghan, the surname is spelled as Croarkin and Croarken.  The area of at least one of the families is Clones (see above) and that family is Church of Ireland.  There are other families in other areas of Monaghan and if you have a subscription for Roots Ireland, it may be worth taking a look at it.  The website is:  https://rootsireland.ie

If you have any other questions, please let us know.

Kind regards,

Jane

Hi, Danny.

I'm also a descendant of Edward Croarkin. I have some family information - but haven't had any contact with anyone in Ireland. I hope to visit next year. Our family settled in the Chicago area and my Grandmother was a Croarkin.

Please feel free to email me at salesbytracy@gmail.com

My family has been traced back to the Crokens from Dunraymond, as well. My grandmother, Claire Croken Cannon lived in Prince Edward Island, Canada. And I live in Halifax, Canada. Joanne
