Robyn,

There’s just 1 Arthur Criggan listed in the tithes for Loughgall in 1828. He was farming in the townland of Ardress West.

By the time of Griffiths Valuation in 1864, there was a James Cregan living there. Possibly a relation of Arthurs? He did not have a farm but lived in a farm labourer’s cottage (plot 43a) on the late John Dodd’s farm. (Today that’s on Ardress West Rd, near Vallely’s Bar).

The Valuation revision records show James’ deleted in 1875. So he may have died around that time. I do see a possible death in the statutory records. A Jamees Creegan died 2.6.1875 aged 60, registered Armagh. You can view the original certificate on-line on the GRONI website, using the “search registrations” option:

https://geni.nidirect.gov.uk

You will need to open an account and buy some credits. It costs £2.50 (sterling) to a view a certificate.

There were no Creggans living in Ardress West in 1901:

I assume the family was RC. Loughgall RC baptisms start in 1835 and marriages in 1833. They are on-line free on the National Library site:
