COUNTY ROSCOMMON

My wife and I are coming to Ireland July 15th from the US and plan to be in Roscommonon July 23rd.  I have traced some (1/3) of my roots back to Roscommon.  My ascendants who I believe lived in Roscommon County included:

Michael Farrell who died in 1899 (I found a death record stating ROOSKY and Francis Farrell who I believe was one of his sons born in 1878 and maybe living in Cloonfad was the Informant).  I have been unable to substantiate through Marriage Records that Michael was married to Catherine Rush but I am fairly certain that was the case.  She was born in 1841 maybe in Ballina and died in Strokestown in 1922.  They also had a daughter, Anne Farrell, born in 1867 and later moved to the US.  Anne was my great grandmother and met and married my great grandfather, Michael Hicks, Sr (born in Roscommon in 1856, but met Anne in the US and later died 1919).  Michael was the son of Patrick Hicks (1820-1881) and Mary Donahue Hicks (1830-1857) both of Roscommon also.

I am not an expert at tracing my roots, but we would love to be able to see a home or cemetery of my ancestors, meet a person or whatever when I visit.  Obviously there is now not much time left.  Are you able to help us out?  Thank you,  Randy

Randy,

Attached is Francis' civil birth record showing his mother was Catherine Rush and the family lived in the town land of Cloonfad. On the paid site, Roots Ireland, I also found the following siblings:

Anne (1868), Margaret (1870), Michael (1872), Thomas (1874) and James (1877). You can view these records on the site irishgenealogy.ie as well.

I could not find a marriage record, and there were no baptism records for the children on Roots Ireland, only civil records.

The 1901 census does not have Cloonfad in its' database, but the site leitrim-roscommon.org does...this site was created by another volunteer on this site, Roger McDonnell, and has helped me find my ancestors in Roscommon.

Catherine is listed as a widow living with her two unmarried sons Michael (26) and Francis (22) on the 1901 Cloonfad census.

Regards,

Carolyn

Thank you so much Carolyn!
