Copeland

LaoisLea (Laois)

Hello
Looking for my grandfather, Robert Copeland.
Born 1849
In 1868 Was in Royal Irish Constabulary for 5 years.. Then he went to Lancashire, met and married Charlotte Corbett. They had 12 children.

He was not
Rn in Queens County.
On his marriage certificate it stated that his father John was a police Sergeant.
No mention of a mother.
Mount Mellick seems to be his place if birth.

Any assistance of finding who his parents were or who his siblings were would be very helpful.

I searched on the subscription site Roots Ireland and did not find a baptismal record for a Robert Copeland with father John. Roots Ireland only mainly has RC records for Co.Laois only two Church of Ireland parishes. My guess is that your Copelands were Church of Ireland.

This link https://www.ireland.anglican.org/cmsfiles/pdf/AboutUs/library/registers…;  shows the status of all Church of Ireland parish registers. If Robert was baptized in Mountmellick C of I church, it appears that the records are held in the Representative Church Body Library in Dublin. The library currently has a project to digitize their holdings. Not sure when the records will be available for online searching.

This is probably John's wife, though she was living in Rosenallis, not Clonagh. A clue here is that she was a pensioner's wife.
