CONNOR (O'CONNOR) of County Offaly

Connor (OConnor) Co. Offaly

My maternal 2nd great grandfather Matthew Connor was baptised on 5th Aug 1832 and the family lived in the village/townland of Kill in the Parish/District of DAINGEAN, Co Offaly.

His parents are listed as Michael Connor and Mary (McElroy) Connor.

There was a sister Elizabeth baptised 29th Jun 1836 and a brother Terence baptised 29th Jul 1838. Family still lived in the village/townland of Kill in the Parish/District of DAINGEAN, Co Offaly.

Terence married a Mary Doonigan on 27th May 1864 in the parish of CLONBULLOGE, Co Offaly. They lived in Clonsast.

Terence and Mary were living in Clonsast Upper at the time of the 1901 census. However at the time of the 1911 census Terence is listed as a widower living in the same address. His son Michael is also living there for both census events.

I would be interested in ascertaining the date and place of death for both Mary and Terence.

I believe that they had at least 6 girls Anne, Eliza, Christina, Bridget and Mary. Bridget was still alive at the time of the 1901 and 1911 census living with her brother Patrick in Clonmacnoise.

There were at least 3 boys and all shown as living in Clonsast, in the Parish of Clonbulloge, Co. Offaly:

Patrick: Baptised 1st Jun 1869

John: Baptised 1st Jul 1871

Michael: Baptised 1st Sep 1880

Patrick married Mary Dolan on 12th Feb 1900 in the parish of Clonmacnoise.

At the 1901 census Patrick and Mary are listed as living in Clonmacnois (together with his sister Bridget).

At the time of the 1911 Census Patrick and Mary are listed as still living in Clonmacnois (together with his sister Bridget). They are listed as having 7 children born and 7 children living. All children birth place is Kings County. For this 1911 census their surname is OConnor.

I would be interested in ascertaining the date and place of death for both Patrick and Mary.

Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

I remember working on Clonsast before. Did You post an earlier message? I think I located te death record images for Terence and Mary but was less successful with Patrick and Mary. You will have to sign-in to see the images below. Maybe you can search www.irishgenealogy.ie and see if you can locate the death records for Patrick and Mary. If they died in Clonmacnois then the registration district would be Parsonstown.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Roger,

Thanks for those details.  I will continue my search.  After I posted the first entry I found that had omitted some information so maybe you can have a look for me.

Michael Connor:

At the time of the 1911 census he was married and living with his father (Terence) in Clonsast Upper and according to the Census record he had been married for 9 years to Elizabeth from Co. Wexford.  There are no children listed (living/dead).

I would be interested in information for both Michael and Elizabeth (e.g. the date and place of death and details of any children).

John Connor:

I have not been able to trace this person so if anyone has any idea, I would be grateful.

I have just found on the civil marriage record for Terrence’s daughter – Anne Oconnor on 7th April 1902 – DRUMSHANBO Civil Registration District, C0. Leitrim.  Her address was Slievenakilla.  It lists one of the witnesses as John Oconnor.

They were married in Ballinagleragh RC church.

Many thanks - Jim Hunt

Jim:

Our message board has experienced very high volumes (91 total messages on 5/2 and 5/3) and I'm tied up working those messages. Can I suggest you use www.irishgenealogy.ie and search for civil death records for Michael and Elizabeth. All the best in your research.

Hey Jim,

I know this is a really old thread and a long shot, but we seem to have intersected! Terence Connor is my third great grandfather.

I also have "Terence marrying Mary Doonigan on 27th May 1864 in the parish of Clonbulloge , Co Offaly, both lived in Clonsast," but this record states Patrick is the father of Terence. I have Terence Connor baptized 25 Nov 1835, parish of Clonbulloge, Co Offaly to Patrick Connor and Margt.

Just wondering how you connected Terence Connor baptised 29th Jul 1838, Kill, parish of Daingean, Co Offaly to the one marrying Mary Doonigan in Clonbulloge.

Thanks!
