Comer

My grandfather, Patrick Thomas Comer was born in Glenamaddy in 1879 to Thomas Comer and Nora (Honora) Mullowney (spelling?) Younger siblings wee Luke, Michael, Kathleen and Margaret.

Trying to find birth records/ baptism records for Thomas Comer my GGF. His father may have come from Scotland but can’t confirm it. Thomas Comer is fairly common in this area and not sure which is correct one

Roger - definitely found my family.   Based upon death certificate in 1919 which states he died at 75 makes it most likely that the baptismal certificate in 1847 is the closest but think he was born in 1844.  Could they have waited 3 years to Baptize him? Seems long to me.

If the 1847 is correct his father would be Patrick

i find this interesting because Patrick => Thomas=> Patrick=> my Father then was Thomas Patrick Comer

Thanks

Gail:

No, RC baptisms were held fairly quickly after birth maybe two-three days.

I would lean towards the first record that Patricia located, the 1839 baptism. The ages in the 1911 census are generally accurate within a few years (1901 ages were almost always understated). Thomas showed 68 in 1911 which means roughly born 1842 so the 1839 record is most likely.

Both records show Patrick as father.   Any other way to confirm which one?   Any civil birth records?

Civil birth registration started in 1864.

What about marriage between Patrick Comer and Mary Murphy?

that might say where he’s from?

Patrick Comer and Mary Murphy were married April 14 1839 in Glennamaddy but no location data was shown according to the Roots Ireland transcription. Witnesses were Thomas Power and Honoria Connelly.
