Carew family from Farahy, Cork, Ireland

I'm the 5th great-grandaugther of Thomas Carew and his wife Esther Goulding. I know that Thomas was born in 1782 and married in 1802, but haven't been able to locate much more information. Thomas's father, Richard, was born in 1750, I believe. His wife was named Sharon, I believe, but not sure of the last name.

For Esther, both her brother and father we named Samuel. Esther was born in 1784. Her father was born in 1752. I have no information about her mother.

Several of their descendants, including myself, have been looking for more information. One of my distant cousins told me at a family reunion that she kept on running into roadblock when she'd mention the Carew name. I'm guessing there were some black sheep in the family somewhere, or that someone in the family did something awful. I know about the poem that was written about a Carew, but I'm not sure how I'm related to him.

I'd really appreciate any information that could be given to me about both the Gouldings and the Carews. I don't want to step on any feet with the Carew side, but this mystery has persisted in my family, and I don't know where else to look except back to the community where I was told he was born and married.

Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

I will alert our parish liaison in Kildorrery which is right next door to Farahy about your message. Let me know if you have not heard anything in about ten days.

I haven't heard anything yet. Not terribly surprised knowing that a distant cousin couldn't get anyone to talk to her about the Carews, but was hoping for something.

Have you learned anything from your HQ?

kreifel1986@ya…

Thats cool cause Thomas and Esther carew are my decendants too! The farthest i got was a Richard charles carew (thomas's father) and his father charles samuel phillip carew, all from cork county but there is nothing else. If you find anything then please let me know so I can add it to my family tree. Thanks!

I think they've either run into the same roadblocks I have and don't want to say it, or they've forgotten to check with the HQ or parish. Not sure....I haven't heard thing since they said they were going to check with their HQ to find out why the parish hadn't contacted me over a month ago. Our ancestors Thomas and Esther had a son named Samuel. I'm descended from them through Samuel's daughter Martha. I'd love to exchange info with you, Jenna, and get you added to the tree I've been working on as well, if you're interested. Recently made contact with another distant relative and descendant of theirs.

I did followup with our HQ at the end of June and I have to presume they re-contacted the Kildorrery parish liaison. At this point, I assume you are not going to hear anything for whatever reason. I think part of the problem is that you are looking for information over 200 years ago. Sorry we were not able to assist.

Hi Kara and Tami, just located your exchange...three years later! Duh...My name is Judy Schuster. I live in Cambria, California. My mother's family is from Ontario, Canada, also, and Thomas Carew and Esther goulding emigrated to Ontario in 1825, part of the Peter Robinson settlers. I have some info on them from that point, but very little before that. Look forward to echanging info!

Hi, I'm a Canadian, new to this group. I am a descendant of Thomas and Esther Carew, who came from County Cork with their 8 children on the ship The Resolution in 1825 to Ontario, Canada as part of the Peter Robinson expedition, and settled in the Peterborough Ontario area. One of their children, Sarah was 15 at the time. She married Richard Smithson when she was 19 and proceeded to have 15 or 16 children, one of whom was Esther, who married James Reid. James and Esther are my great grandparents. I have a picture of them. I'd be interested to hear from relatives.
