Can you tell me about the sirname 'Kidder'?

Cork

I'm new to the site and would like to find out more about my Irish roots. I have found the information below but wanted to see if any Kidders were around the county Cork.

Thanks in advance. I'm glad to be a part of the community.

Hi Badkider, I could find no records of a Kidder in Cork on the Irish Genealogy site, civil records commence in 1864 for all BMD and in 1845 for Protestant marriages, some church records are also available under Church Records but no Kidder but on the site you linked it mentioned Kidney and that is bingo, lots of church records herehttps://www.irishgenealogy.ie/en/ select church reocrds and year range etc, sign in but free. I would suggest if you decide on Kidney the username prefaced with bad may not be the best!!!!!

The reason I looked for the Kidney name is there was a well know Declan Kidney who you can view on Wikipedia.

Also if looking for living relatives you might try some of the private Facebook pages, there appear to be page for genealogy in every county and often for particular parts of a county if you search. I am on a few but not in Cork and my experience is the pages are strictly moderated and well managed and most members are committed to be there in the first place.

If you can find more information you could post again under the parish, it is helpful to mention religion as we can know where to search as pre civil records there are mainly but not totally church records. There is a land survey in Cork about 1850 to 1853 and there are 172 Kidney entries for the county, not necessarily 172 different families as some entries may own more than one piece.
