Cahills of Longford township offaly
my gggrandmother was Rosanna Cahill born in 1822 from Longford (little), south of Kinitty, in county Offaly. We believe her Father was Thomas Cahill if we pay attention to the Irish naming tradition. I do see a Thomas Cahill as a sponsor in Saint Moula’s baptismal church records starting in 1833. I hired the Irish family History Center in Dublin and gave them access to my Ancestry.com DNA. That DNA points me to this area in the Slieve Bloom mountains. Is there actually a small town named Longford or just a townland ??. Rosanna’s mother was also named Rose Anna and her maiden name was Nagel or Nagle.
My Rosanna married Patrick Ryan of Killenaule Tipperary in Wisconsin USA in 1849. Their first child was named Julia (my great grandmother) and we have a Julia E. Cahill, born in Ireland, living in the same county in Wisconsin during the early 1800’s.
If there are older church records from nearby Catholic Churches from that area, could you please tell me about them or share them with me.?? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you. Mark Reimer, an Irish American (proudly)
