Byrnes ancestors

I’m searching information on Andrew S Byrnes born is 1822 in Ireland. He came to the US through NY in the late 1840s or very early 1850s, and from there settled in Mobile AL. He was a draysman and had horses in Mobile. His sister went to  Canada and lived in a monastery. Unfortunately all the monastery records were destroyed in a fire. He was Catholic. In his will his sister is listed as Mary Byrne, so perhaps the last name was Byrne and the “s” got added when he immigrated to the US.

Any information is appreciated

thank you,

Terri Byrnes Perreault

Terri,

To assist volunteers can you provide additional info on Andrew. Did he get married (where, when, and to whom)? Did he have children (names and birth years)? When and where did he die? Sometimes marriage and death records include parent names, have you investigated?

Terri,

There are 3 trees on Ancestry for Andrew 1822-1903. He married Catherine Dora in 1854 in Mobile and died there in 1903. He had 3 children. You might check their birth, marriage, and death records to see if more info is provided about Andrew.

One of the trees, username Layla Miguel, suggests Andrew was born in Wicklow, no supporting documentation. His oldest son was Michael Joseph. Using the typical Irish name pattern, Andrew's first son would be named after his father. I found an Andrew born June 11, 1824, in Ballymore Eustace, Wicklow to Michal Byrne and Maria on RootsIreland (paid subscription). It is a possibility.

Mary,

Layla is my daughter and we've been searching Ancestry. We’ve found a fair amount of info on Andrew since he came to Mobile, but all the records only say Ireland as his place of birth, even his death certificate.

My uncle Fr Leo M Byrnes told me he had found the village where Andrew came from and visited there. I was young and didn’t ask the name. I could kick myself now for not asking.

I’m sharing this site with my daughter so she can have access also.

I appreciate your efforts very much.

All the best,

Terri
