Looking for information on Bridget Mullins from Lisheenavalla, County Galway. Born about 1863.She was married to William John McCallion - either married in Ireland or NY. She passed away in NYC August 1887 after giving birth to a daughter in May. Haven't found any marriage records in New York and her death certificate says she was only in the US for a year - so possibly married in Ireland? Thank you

It is possibIe that in NY the marriage was not registered with the civiI authorities. The onIy record then wouId be the church record, probabIy in BrookIyn. It is not aIways easy to determine the church, but you couId start with the address on Bridget's death record.

I have looked at the civil marriage records on the irishgenealogy website but there is no sign of this couple’s marriage in Ireland 1880 - 1887.

Did the baby live? What was the girl's name? Did she stay with her father in New York? I assume you have the official New York State death certificate. Typically, it would include parent names.

Like Elwyn, I did not find a marriage record for Bridget in Ireland. I checked RootsIreland, Ancestry, and FamilySearch. I did not find a record in New York using Ancestry and FamilySearch. You might want to contact the State of New York for the record. Sometimes parent names are included on marriage and death records.

Thank you - so much appreciated information! I am hoping I have the right Bridget, and I believe I do but looking for confirmation. The baby did live - Maryann (called Annie Mary). She returned to Ireland with her father, William John, where he remarried Mary Ann OKane and she raised her as a daughter. Unfortunately, Annie Mary passed away at the age of 14. I am searching for where she is buried but haven't found it yet. Also unfortunate is that as the years went on no one spoke of her - my mother-in-law- her niece- had never heard of her nor was anyone aware that William had been married once before.
I have searched records for Mullin relatives that may have some answers but want to be sure I have the correct person first to help verify any information. I would imagine the family, if they knew of the child's existence would wonder what happened to her. If they do of her existence, then they may know where she was buried.
Bridget is buried at Holy Cross Cemetery in Brooklyn NY and I have reached out to the Holy Cross Parish to see if they have marriage records and any records on Annie Mary and waiting to hear back. This was a great recommendation from this site!
