Hi Ivan,

The 1911 census for Ireland records Bridget Reidy in the townland of Tervoe as being 66 years of age and a widow. Residing with her is her son - John - aged 34 years, a carpenter.

A check of Irish Genealogy up to 1940 did not reveal any death record for her up to 1940, so it would appear that her death may not have been reported to the Civil Authorities. There is a web site - Ballybrown/Clarina who have a Community Group, they may be able to assist. Her local church may have a record, but there is alway the possibility that she did not die at home.

Regards,

Yes Margot that's Correct his Father was Adam Reidy but had to change his name to Patrick to marry Bridget McNamara because she has been in the family way let say.well before they were married. If you understand religious beliefs had a big bearing on this outcome . Her parents and family wanted Adam to marry her.but his family then this owned him which is very sad. Patrick Adam Reidy died in 1877 over a year after his son Jack was born, makes it even worse so Bridget depended on her sister Mary and probably her family to raise John (Jack) Reidy. I know they are relatives of Jack who are probably trying to find what I'm searching for Bridget's family and her date of death.

A great-great grandmother, Mary (McNamara) Gick, sailed for America ca. 1838 with her father, Andrew McNamara (ca. 1788-1862), and siblings William and Eliza (m. Michael McMahon). After she married in 1855, Mary wrote herself into her husband's family bible as the daughter of "Andru & Alce," the latter of which I read as "Alice."

I've been working on the family tree for almost 45 years, and these folks have always been a brick wall for me. I found them first on the 1850 U.S. census, living in Joshua Township, Fulton County, Ill., which is also where Andrew, William and Eliza are buried in a Catholic cemetery. Mary left the Catholic faith and is buried with her English-born Protestant husband, Henry Gick, in a public cemetery in neighboring McDonough County.

In some respects, this family resembles that of a Maria McNamara, daughter of Andrew McNamara and Alice Coyle, who was baptized at Newcastle West, Co. Limerick, on 5 Aug., 1834. However, the dates don't precisely match. Mary wrote in her husband's family Bible that she was born (not baptized) on 15 Aug., 1837. Could someone be mistaken regarding her own birthdate? I don't know, but this is what I have.
