Bridget McNamara born approx 1881 Newmarket on Fergus

Hello, you previously provided me some very helpful information in my search for my mum’s grandmother. I have now obtained some further information which I think might be of use in tracing her. Here’s a recap of what I know so far:

  • my mum's grandma, Bridget McNamara, was born in the early 1880s. We have been unable to find a birth certificate although the 1911 UK census gives her birthplace as Newmarket on Fergus

  • Bridget moved to England where she was was married as Delia McNamara to Walter Hudson in September 1902. Her father is given as Michael McNamara Gardener (deceased)

  • Bridget/Delia gives her age as 20 on her marriage certificate which places her birth year in 1881/2 although her entry in the 1939 UK Register gives her date of birth as 30th November 1883

I do not know when Bridget came to England. I cannot find a trace of her in the UK 1901 census but have recently found this entry in the 1901 Ireland census which shows a Bridget around the right age with only the mother as head of the household. I think that Newgrove is not too far from Newmarket on Fergus?

Could you tell me how I might take this search further given how common the McNamara name was in that area. Thanks in advance for your help.

Baptismal records for the RC parish of Newmarket on Fergus for the late 1870s/early 1880s are not available on subscription sites. The parish register on the NLI site only goes up to 1865 for baptisms. I started going through all the Bridget McNamara civil birth records for Co. Clare on irishgenealogy.ie looking for Bridget McNamara records with father Michael but there are too many records to review.

The census record you provided is a lead but we don't know if Bridget left Ireland before March 31 1901 when the census was taken.

Do you have any info on possible siblings?

Thank you for your reply. I appreciate that McNamara is a very common name and it’s very difficult to know which Bridget might be the right one. Unfortunately I don’t have any information on siblings.

Lorraine:

I went back and did some more research and focused just on civil births in Co. Clare for 1881-1882. Below are the two records I located for a Bridget McNamara with father Michael. The first record was 1881 and the second record-1882.
