Bridget McDermott

Bridget McDermott was my husband's 2nd great grandmother. She has a brother Patrick. She and her brother can be found emigrating to Ontario, Canada. My question is...her brother's death record lists his birth place as County Mayo but her birth place on her death record is Clare. Could it be Clare Island? Were there McDermotts there in the 1820's? Her birth year is 1826. Patrick's birth year is 1815. I think their parents were Patrick McDermott and Sarah Timlin. Any thoughts.. Thank you in advance!! Dana Kelly

Hi Dana, I have been asked to look at old queries, I cannot find any child of a McDermott / Timlin marriage in Mayo, probably because what ever parish they were in does not have reocrds as they are sparse at that remove in most counties.

However your Timlin name is spot on, on John Grenhams site, subscription site but free name searches, there are 59 Timlins in Griffiths Valuation 1848 to 1864 and 42 of them are in Mayo. https://www.johngrenham.com/surnames/

Baptism records for Clare Island only commence in 1851, some marriages 1821 to 1829 https://registers.nli.ie/parishes/1055

There are many active private Mayo genealogy groups on Facebook, apply to join and you may get lucky.

Good Luck
