Breslin - Swift 1878 marriage certificate translation

Hello

In an attachment I enclosed a May 2, 1878 marriage registration from County Cavan.

However, It is difficult for me to read the content.

My family members are the 2nd listing:

Francis Breslin age 50 and Catherine Swift age 48 - both were widowers. Both appear to be farmers.

Please provide clarity on the Catholic Church they got married in, the home addresses they provided and Catherines fathers name etc.

Thank you - Anne

Anne:

The RC chapel/church where the marriage occurred is Staghall which is part of the RC parish of Drumlane. See link to present day parish https://www.kilmorediocese.ie/parish-details/?parishID=14

Francis was from the townland of Drumcole in the civil parish of Drumlane. Catherine was from the townland of Brankill (Flood) in the same civil parish.

Hello Again

Thank you for the follow up on Christopher Donegan. That is a rather handsome name.

Given the above information about Francis Breslin, he remarried  in 1878 age 50.

I believe he died prior to 1889. He was listed as deceased on Catherine Breslin's Shercock - Co Cavan marriage certificate January 1889.

Do you have a death certificate from the location - area of his second marriage? cause of death, and who presented the death wife or adult child?

Sincerely, Anne

Anne:

I believe Catherine died in 1894. See eighth record at the link   https://www.irishgenealogy.ie/files/civil/deaths_returns/deaths_1894/05965/4695476.pdf They were living in Caldragh which is another townland in Drumlane civil parish.

Francis died in 1898. See fourth record at the link. It appears he died in the Cavan workhouse which would have had a hospital. Note the record shows formerly Caldragh.

I'm confused about the 1889 Catherine Breslin marriage record. The record shows she was a spinster rather than a widow. Is it possible that there was another Francis Breslin in Co. Cavan who had a daughter Catherine? There are no Francis Breslin adult civil death records in Co, Cavan from 1864-1889.

Yes, some dates are challenging for my research too.

But to start Catherine Breslin married Peter James Maguire in Shercock - Cavan January 1889, Catherine listed her father as Francis Breslin. To my knowledge this was Catherine's first marriage and the paperwork notes her as a spinster. Catherine and Peter James Maguire first born child was named Peter James born 1890.

There is also a death record of Mary Breslin 7 March 1901, age 66, unmarried. I believe the death listing says Shercock.

The informant of death was Peter J Maguire. Listed as cousin in law.

I don't know how this Mary Breslin, born around 1835 is related to the Peter James Maguire family. or if this Mary Breslin is related to Francis Breslin.

But Mary Breslin is listed as a sponsor on Francis Breslin age 50 and Catherine Swift age 48 - May 1878 marriage.

Is it possible Mary Breslin (1901 death age 66) and Francis Breslin were brother and sister?  Francis born approximately 1828.

Your thoughts . . .

Anne:

I think it is possible/likely that Mary Breslin was the younger sister of Francis. However, without records, no way to confirm.
