Brehany of Roscommon

I am looking for the townland of origin of a Mary Brehany whose father was Thomas. She reportedly had siblings named Delia, James and Michael. She was born about 1869 and emigrated to NY between 1879 and 1885. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Pat:

Do you know the Mary's mothers name from a marriage or death record? I took a quick look at the Roots Ireland indexes and located an 1867 civil record with parents Thomas and Mary. There was also an 1872 RC church record in the Ballaghaderreen church. Parents were Thomas an Atty.

From what I can see, Breheny is more prevalent around Ballaghaderreen and Brehany is more common around Boyle.

Let me know.

Hello Roger,

I'm sorry for the delayed reply. I have no record with Mary's maiden name, other that on Find-a-Grave which lists her as Mary Braney Burke. I don't know what to make of that. She had brothers named Thomas and Martin which are listed as "Brahney" in the NJ Census. With the "a" appearing in both, maybe Brehany is the more likely correct spelling,

Best regards,

Pat
