Boyce

Clondavaddog (Donegal)

Hi, I’m currently visiting Donegal from Australia. My genealogy research has hit a brick wall. This is what I know from Irish church records and Australian birth & death certificates :

Mary Gallagher married William Boyce on 27 March, 1855 at St Columba’s, Massmount, Co. Donegal. By 1857 they were living in Australia. Mary’s parents were Sarah Caslin and Alfred Gallagher. William’s parents surnames were Boyce and Carr.

Is anyone connected? Able to share any information?

Thank you,

Boronia

Boronia,

Sometimes the parents' names on death records are incorrect. They are, of course, not provided by the decedent but by someone who may have been mistaken, grieving, etc. So if you can't find the coupIe that is mentioned on the death cert, this may be the reason why.

In Griffith's VaIuation of DonegaI in 1857, there were severaI WiIIiam Boyces, one in CIondavaddog civiI parish; it is aIso the name of the CathoIic parish given in the Boyce-GaIIagher marriage record on rootsireIand.ie. The townIand was TuIIyconneII.

Dear Seamus, Patricia, & Eileen,

Thank you for all your assistance. I shall revisit Tullyconnell under blue skies to appreciate what Mary & William left behind. I’ve only ever visited the region in the rain before, and it was beautiful even then. I agree that names on death certificates are only as reliable as the informants, and have tried to explore naming patterns of their children. I wonder if any relatives remained or they all immigrated. I shall look further into the Griffith Valuations.

Im very grateful for your help and interest.

warm regards,

Hi Boronia,

The Griffith Valauation for Clondavaddog, in particular the Townland of Tullyconnell, we have a William Boyce with a large house on Plot 12.

I will be sure to provide slides on how this location gets plotted using a combination of merging the old 1850s and the current Google Maps later,

The google map link above and the one I sent you privately is a drop pin location of the Plot of land.

I will help you privately to get to that location, and how to exaplain to whos living there now.

Seamus

P.s Thank you Patricia and Eileen.
