Bollincullen or Ballyculleen, Co Roscommon

The Tithe Applotment Books place my ancestors (Gannons) in the townland of Bollincullen, which I have not been able to find on any map of the 1830s or listed in any Townland Lists.

However, tweny years later Griffiths has Gannonsin Ballyculleen, which I have found on maps, but not of the 1830s.

Is this the same townland under two different names? Did the Applotment Book compilers simply get it wrong?

Elucidation would be greatly appreciated.

I believe youur analysis is correct. If you compare the surnames from the Tithes to the Griffiths, you see a lot of similarity e.g. McGreevy, Goldrick, Dolan, Padden etc. However, I don't see a Gannon in the 1855 Griffiths in Ballyculleen.

I have come across the Gannon family name in pre-famine records for Ballyculleen aka Bollincullen. (Click on the link to discover more records for this townland).

Here, you will find  Gilbert, Dennis & Mick Gannon all recorded in the 1835 Tithe Applotment Records for "Bollincullen". As Roger confirmed, they had moved on by the time of the 1857 Griffith's Valuation. 

If you can add your particular Gannon ancestor details to the Killukin Ancestors board (and tag "Ballyculleen townland" as an attached building) I will be able to tell you more.
