Bogan / Boggan Families in Ireland

My fourth great grandfather was Sir Walter Boggan (1694-1756) who left his homestead in Castle Finn, Donegal, Ireland and came to America with his family. I am hoping to find any descendants of the Bogan/Boggan family still living in Ireland. My wife and I live in Martinez, Georgia, USA and we are very proud of our ancestry. Would deeply appreciate anyone who can help locate members of our family. Richard Delton Boggan

Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

I checked the online Irish phone book (small percentage of phone users) and there were no Bogan/Boggan entries in Donegal.

You may want to check with the Ballbofey branch library which is not too far from Castlefinn to see if they have any information. http://www.donegallibrary.ie/openinghours/

We also have a parish liaison in Stranolar and I will alert her to your message.

Richard,

We are also grandchildren to Walter Boggan and just returned from a trip to Ireland on a search for the original homestead in Castlefinn. If you are interested in obtaining photo's from our trip you may find me on Facebook under Teresa Krenek, Lovelady, Texas.

I just came across this post and am very interested. I have tracked my ancestry to similar families in Cork, Dongel, Dublin. I am headed to Ireland I a couple weeks. I will be spending time in Dublin, Cork City, Killarney, and Shannon. Any details on Bogan's in these areas would be really great. Most of my family names are James, William, Robert, etc..

Richard, my name is John Boggan and Sir Walter Boggan is my 5th great grandfather. I am descended from his son James Patrick Boggan (1740-1799) and his grandson Charles A. Boggan (1780-1860). I live in Nashville, TN & can be reached at johncboggan59@gmail.com.

I have letters written to and from Clady, in which are mentioned several Bogans. I am researching Mullens from Clady and am willing to share what I have with the hope that we can exchange info.

Hello, all

I just found this page; I'm having a bit of a hard time tracking back my ancestry to Ireland. My family moved from Ireland to Newfoundland from what I can figure between 1800-1840(?), they settled in Topsail. They left through Cornwall, but I do not have names, The earliest ancestor I'm able to track down is my great-grandfather, Thomas Boggan, born 1891 in Newfoundland. He married Teresa Neville in 1919 and remarried to Edith Moyse after Teresa's death.

Hopefully some of these names ring a bell, I'm at a loss.

Cheers,

Nicholas Thomas Boggan

Boggan was primarily a Co. Wexford surname around 1850. I would suggest you take a general DNA test.
