Thanks Mary. I'll investigate this.
It’s clear from the birth certificate that there is somewhere near Buncrana called Bog of Allan. It’s probably a sub-townland (ie part of a townland). Have you found the family in the 1901 census? William was a farmer and so they tend to stay put in the one place. If you know where they were in 1901, study the map of that townland (on Griffiths) to see if Bog of Allan is shown.
Did Patrick Doherty have any siblings? If so, what do their birth certificates give as place of birth?
This place would appear to be "Bog of Allen".
See right hand page - Loughrey - Wills 1889.

Many thanks to you all in your help with my question on Patrick Doherty's birthplace of Bog of Allen in 1884.
It is greatly appreciated
I thought I would update everyone who kindly helped me in my search for The Bog of Allen recently. I have found its location through a hiking company in Buncrana.
It’s now a housing estate called the Hawthorns in Ballymacarry, Buncrana.
Map attached.
Cheers Pam
Pam,
