Ancestry RIC records mention a James Bodley who enlisted in 1842, aged 22. Born in Co. Tipperary. He qualified for a pension in 1876 which was paid in Strokestown.
If you search the British Newspaper Archives using the terms: “Head Constable Bodley” you will find numerous court cases where James was a witness or the arresting officer.
Freeman’s Journal of 14th August 1876 reports the death of Kate Teresa Bodley on 10th Aug at Elphin. Aged 21. Daughter of ex-Head Constable Bodley. Deeply regretted by a large circle of friends.
Is this his death in 1888:

James died intestate. His wife Ann was the administrator of his estate.

Just checking...is it confirmation of his death record you are seeking? If yes, it states that the deceased James Bodley was head constable, RIC, which should confirm it is the James you are seeking.
Hi Patricia and Elwyn,
Thank you both for coming back.
James Bodley was my gr grand uncle. He was born in Mullinahone, Tipperary 20/feb/1820
His dod was 1888 as u said. His wife Ann was his 2nd wife and they were married for 7/8 years
On his RIC record 4895 it stated that he was married. What I would really like to find is the details of his first wife name/dom/dod and if they had any children.
I found a record on family search for a child Mary Ann Bodley DOB 23/4/1853 Ros Muc Galway. Parents James Bodley and Mary Cannivan. Could this be my James. I also found a record in the Limerick Chronicle 22/6/1839 which tells of a fire in Ballingarry Tipperary where the daughter of James Rodley was killed by a lightening hit. Could this be Bodley, not Rodley. Ballingarry is where his parents lived and some of his siblings were born. Also death record for Mary Ann Bodley 24/12/1878 Elphin. James remarried in 1880.
Kate Teresa could be his daughter.
James had 2 other brothers in the RIC John DOB 1827,
Patrick dob 1835?
My gr grandfather was Richard DOB 1833 Drangan Tipperary
I hope you can follow my message and I look forward to hearing back.
Thanks Mary
It looks like this death record IS for the first wife of James. Note she was married to a Police Pensioner...James.

I feel this is likely to be James second marriage in 1880 to Ann McKeon:
