Blank names on birth records

First off thanks to everyone who has helped me with my search of Mayo records to find my great-grandmother. Unfortuantely no luck yet.

Two questions:

In looking at the civil birth records sometimes there are no names for the baby. Do you know why or is it because the child died?

This a strange question. Do you know of instances of people's births after 1865 not being accounted in the civil records?

Perhaps that's what I'm facing.

Again thanks to all of you out there who help.

If someone ever needs help tracking Irish relatives in the Youngstown, Ohio, area, I can help.
