BLAKE Family in Ireland / UK

Greetings. I am attempting to trace back my family genealogy to the UK, specifically Ireland. My Grandfather, Frank Oliver Blake, was born in 1870 in Vermont, USA. His parents were (supposedly) Frank (or George) Blake and Anna (Flannery) Blake. They would have immigrated around the time of the Potato Famine.

I cannot find any trace of a Birth Certificate for my Grandfather nor any specific immigration records or passenger lists.

They may have immigrated first through High Tower, London.

Any assistance is welcome and appreciated.

GRB,

Have you traced them in the U.S. censuses? Found their death records, obituaries, headstone info? Probate records? In these you may find the connection back to Ireland.

I only have pieces. I have 3,000+ Relatives now in my Tree on MyHeritage.com. I hit a wall with my Grandfather.

All I have found is documents alluding to his parents and some dates, but nothing solid. Yes, I am on FamilySearch.org, WikiTree, MyHeritage, etc. I have every piece that involves my Grandfather.

I believe they may have married in Ireland or England. The "story" I heard is that they left Ireland during the Famine and went to High Tower, London. From there that came to America. I have no Passenger lists to verify that. They probably came through Montreal or Quebec and then into Vermont.

in one document he lists his Father as Frank, and later in another George. Mother is always listed as Anna Flannery.

My Father once told a story about my Grandfather going to Ireland to reclaim the property. They told him he had 24 hours to leave or face jail for back taxes. He probably knew which town but no one remembers.

I am guessing that Galway might be a good start. There were a lot of Blakes' there.

Have you had any progress? My Blake is a dead end as well. Edward, direct male ancestor--my father did the y chromosome test and it placed his ancestors in Mayo. But the family story is Galway. Probably both. My Edward arrived in the US before 1858--he married Bridget Kidney in 1858 in Kansas City.

The thing that struck me about your message is the going back to Ireland to claim property. Edward's oldest son Richard supposedly did that in my Blake line as well, but it might just be a story (my direct line stayed in Missouri).
