I have been unable to locate a birth record for Margaret McLaughlin, born 12 January 1853. When she married William Doherty in 1877 at the Parish/District of Buncrana, it was noted that she was living in Leophin. I know her father's name was Hugh, but it is really her mother's name that I am after and hoping a birth record will have this.
Many thanks for your help.
Regards
Pam
Pam.
Civil records in Ireland did not come into force until January 1st 1864.
You will have to depend on the church record, which in many cases do not contain the mother's name.
Do you know of any siblings who would have been born in the 1860's?. Primary school records may assist.
Regards,
Pam,
Leophin/Liafin is in Desertegny parish. Their baptism records don’t start till 1864 so if Margaret was born there, there are no baptism records to search.
This may be Hugh’s death in 1874. His wife was still alive at that date:

So if you go through female McLaughlin deaths in the Inishowen area after 1874 you may find his widow.
Pam,
I went through death records on RootsIreland and came up with these possibilities. You can probably find on Irish Genealogy - Explore your Family History free website
