Bernardum Boyle 1809

Cavan

Hello, I have been trying to find where in Ireland my GGG Grandfather was from in Ireland and came across a new possibility. I know he was born around 1809 in Ireland and that he was in Philadelphia PA by 1843. He was married in Phila to a Bridget Mooney that year. I found a Bernardum Boyle who was born in 1809 in Cavan and was wondering if you could provide any more info on him. Did he die in Ireland - did he get married before or after 1843 - any kids? It looks like this Bernardum had a father named Michael and a mother named Ann. Id just like to know if hes the one or not. My dad had his DNA done and it indicated my father is mostly from Central Ireland (North Leinster and Connacht). I was thinking this might match up with that.

Thanks for any help!

Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

I searched on the subscription site Roots Ireland and did not see an 1809 baptismal record for a Bernardus Boyle. There was an 1807 record in Co. Galway and an 1808 record in Co. Louth. Most RC parishes in Ireland do not have records back to 1810 or earlier. Can you let us know where you located the 1809 record? Thanks!

Chip:

Interesting that Roots Ireland did not transcribe the record even though their index says they have records for Kilsherdany parish back to 1803. Ancestry and Find My Past launched a project about two years ago to digitize all the NLI parish registers and looks like they did a good job translating the Latin record for Bernard's baptismal record.

Roots Ireland had one marriage record for a Bernard Boyle that might be a connection. Drumgoon was the parish to the east of Kilsherdany.

Date of Marriage:03-Jul-1838
Parish / District:DRUMGOON
County:Co. Cavan
Husband   BernardBoyle
Wife ElizabethFee

However, there is also the 1807 Galway record and the 1808 Louth record. I would not consider Cavan as North Leinster and certainly Connacht is way off (Galway, Mayo Roscommon, Sligo, Leitrim).

Let me know if you have further questions. Hopefully you will find a match with Boyle connections.

Hi Char, I too have been looking for more information on my ancestors. It’s a possibility that the Bernard Boyle you are speaking may be part of my family tree as well. My great grandfather was named Bernard Boyle and lived in Philadelphia, PA. He had 5 sons; James, Bernard, Thomas, Joseph and John (my grandfather). I may have more information after speaking to my dad . I’ll keep you posted!

Much appreciated!
