Beirne/Magirl Parentage Issue
My ancestor, Catherine (Kate) Archbold nee: Kelly was the daughter of Michael Kelly and Catherine Kelly nee: Burns (all 3 born somewhere in Ireland, specific location not confirmed.) The name Burns was as it was spelled on Catherine's death record in Lowell, Mass. Therefore, I have documentation that Michael and Catherine are definitely Kate's parents. Now, I'm trying to trace Catherine Kelly (Burns') parents back in Ireland. I'm assuming Burns may be the anglicized version of Beirne or Berne.
I found a baptism record in County Leitrim of an entire Beirne family (including Catherine) around the correct time period. That record identified Catherine's parents as Francis Beirne and Catherine Magirl or McGil. Baptisms of all their children took place in Gortletterach, County Leitrim.
However, yesterday I found a bank record completed in 1890 in Providence, Rhode Island by a Catherine Purns (likely a mis-transcription of Burns) who was opening an account. In that record she lists her parents as Francis Beirne and Catherine Magirl. This Providence Catherine was 60 years old, single and died in Providence 3 years later. My ancestor Catherine (who married Michael Kelly) was not single, stayed in Ireland and died in 1854. Both Catherine's baptism dates are within 5 years of each other and both were baptized in County Leitrim. In short, the 2 Catherines are NOT related and only one of them is my ancestor.
Here's my question: Is it too much of a coincidence to think that two babies named Catherine, baptized within 5 years of each other in the same County in Ireland have parents named Francis Beirne and Catherine Magirl? OR Is the baptism record I found earlier really the baptism of Providence Catherine and not my ancestor?
I hope this was not too convoluted and makes sense.
