Barrons of southern Kilkenny

My family lived in Kilmacow John W. Barron a tithe comissioner born about 1790, married Johanna Roach, about 1809 His father we believe to have been a "high sheriff of poundage" in Granny, Walter Barron. John's son Michael Roach Barron married Mary Rosalee Murphy in wexford, about 1836, moved to waterford, and also was a tithe comissioner, immigrated in 1848 to Missouri, from the entry to America we have good records, but like all of us, the records in Ireland are difficult, the good is we have tithing records, and still exiating letters from 1826, written in Ireland and from Ireland to America till about 1851. Family members appear to be James, Catherine, Joseph, Mary, Lucy (who died in 1850) and others we are less sure of. Johanna, Joseph, and mary Immigrated to Madison co. Missouri in 1851, we believe her husband died, or did not want to go, and moved to Dunkitt, from Ballincurragh/ Ballincurra/ ballincur, depending on who was writing the letters to him. His signature on tithing documents are John or JW Barron we believe the W to be Walter. Letters from Johanna only refer to him as "the Master";These letters are very informative, but only use first names, there must be 3 Mary Barrons at any one time in the family, at least two James, Johns, Edwards and one Edwin, Josephs, and a Walter here and there, One of Johns Sisters married a Cahill, and their son Edward immigrated to SanFrancisco and brought his mother. It appears that John W farmed and lived at the Baiilncurragh house, in 1848, his letters say he considered selling his portion of the farm to Immigrate but possibly used the money to send his wife and 2 children and stayed behind, "poor Lucy died and left enough money for Johanna and children to pay for a German ship (the ANNA) out of liverpool to New Orleans in 1851, should anyone have more information or need any of ours, its John@barronaviation.com

Hello John, I have been asked to look over old queries and while you have supplied an email I do not know whether you got any extra information given you appear to have got there first yourself.

In recent years the Registry of Deeds Project has started putting information online as volunteers put information online, I see a number of Barron names on the list, oddly my quick scan did not get any in Kilkenny, a voluntary land registry sceme was commenced in the early 1700s and mainly ignored but as land disputes went to Cork judges usually made decisions in favour of the registered land owner, this gave it a push, in the late 1700s it was more common and then became a requirement to register property ownership, here is the link,

You should consider contacting the local county library and / or archives to see what if any papers of estates that may be relevant are there or even in the National Archives, all this would require a visit of course as it is not online but that may be in the offing but no time line yet.

Regards

Pat
