Bardin/ Barker / Barns of Moyne Co Wicklow c1850-1878

This is most curious.

Esther Barker's marriage to Thomas Bardin was recorded in the Civil Marriage Registrations as taking place at St. Georges Church of Ireland, Dublin in 1850.  They were both single.

Civil Reg records her marriage of 1854  to Nicholas Hopkins and  lists her as Esther Bardin, widow.

Esther must have had a son Richard Bardin who became a stepson of Nicholas Hopkins

That is quite consistent.

HOWEVER the tombstone of Nicholas has a stepson Richard who died in 1878 at 28,  He must have been born in 1850 as Richard Bardin.

HOWEVER THE TOMBSTONE INSCRITION CLEARLY READS "RICHARD BARNS"

Was this just an error?   Must be.    I don't have access to the Mullinacuffe Parish Reg to check for the entry.

Is this the death record of your Richard Barden 1878 ?

Thank you so much for helping to clear up this mystery of Richard Bardin c1850-1878.   The inscription on the tombstone of Nicholas Hopkins at Mullinacuffe definitely shows him ats Richard BARNS but it shows that errors do occur!!!

Mullinacuffe Graveyard haswhat must be a curious error on one of the tombstones that relates to the Hopkins.

It appears that the name of Nicholas' Hopkins stepson was in error.

Esther Barker (d/o a Richard Barker) c1809 married Thomas Bardin (or Barden) on April 23 1850 (Civil Marriage Registration) at St. Georges Church of Ireland, Dublin in 1850.  They were both single.

Thomas must have died shortly thereafter as Civil Reg records show her marriage of Feb 7, 1854  to Nicholas Hopkins.  It lists her as Esther Bardin, widow. (d/o a Richard Barker).

By her first marriage she must have had a son Richard Bardin around 1850.  In 1868 Esther and Nicholas Hopkins had a daughter and 2 sons at home.   That must have been Mary Jane and John Hopkins, and stepson Richard Bardin.  On Richard Bardin married Esther Maria Barker, ( d/o Benjamin Barker and Jane Haskins.)  He died June 30 1878 at age 28 and was buried at Mullinacuffe July 1.

THIS WOULD BE THE RICHARD BARNS LISTED AS THE STEPSON OF NICHOLAS HOPKINS.

Richard and Esther had a daughter Esther born Dec 7 1877, who later married Robert McCormac.   They had a son Herbert July 18/1903
