Hi Margot I have just seen your reply, so sorry it has taken me a while to respond.
Yes it is an Ellen Bagnall who travelled to Australia, she arrived in Port Phillip Bay (now Melbourne) on board the ‘Lady Kennaway’ ship on 25th February 1850. She was accompanied by her brother, William and his wife, Ally Coman. Their parents were William and Ellen (née Keating) Bagnall. At some stage after 1850, more of this family also arrived in Australia - the mother, Ellen (née Keating); brothers - John and Richard, and sister, Mary. There were also other members of the family that to our knowledge did not travel to Australia but stayed in Ireland - these are - Patrick, Michael and James. The father, William, also did not come out to Australia. Ellen Bagnall Senior’s parents were James and Mary (née Ryan) Keating. This family came from the Cashel area of Tipperary.
The second posting I have sent in is about a totally different family -however the names do cross over, this family of John and Mary (née O’Neill) Keating travelled to Australia with their family of 6 children on board the ‘Maitland’ ship arriving in Port Phillip on 8th January 1850. The children that accompanied John and Mary were - Michael, Julia, William, John, Ellen and Johanna. Another sister, Mary remained in Ireland, marrying William Hickey, before also travelling to Australia. John Keating senior’s parents were Michael and Mary (née Leary) Keating. Mary O’Neill’s parents are William and Mary (née Frahes) O’Neill. This family all came from the Galbally area of Tipperary.
Sorry, all very confusing.
Judy
