Another Waterford Question

On this marriage certificate - the town of the wife looks like Ballyamatra or Ballyamontra? But -no town named that. I wanted to look in Griffiths for her father Patrick Foley but there are lots of them in Waterford and I don't know what town? Also - the witnesses seem odd - someone with the same name as groom (Edmond Maher), which is not his father and something that looked like "Name Kennedy"? Thanks so much!

About the two Edmonds...the witness may have been the groom's cousin.

It looks like the Kennedy witness's first name was obscured or not recorded.

Thanks so much! Looks like I have to subscribe to rootsireland.ie while I'm working on Irish roots!. That is a lot good information. Particularly having the name of the brides mother is really great. Thanks again!!!

You are welcome. Let us know if you have further questions.

Hello MBradley,

The first name of the Kennedy witness to the 1890 marriage of Edmond Maher and Bridget Foley is Nano. Nano is an affectionate nickname or diminutive for  Hannah, or Hannora, and can also be short for Nancy.

Based on the marriage record you provided, I found Edmond Maher, Bridget Foley, and their children in the 1901 and 1911 census enumerations of Ireland.  If you don’t have the census returns I can send them to you in a follow-up reply.

I also uncovered the civil registration birth records of five of six children that Edmond and Briget Foley Maher had since their 1890 marriage.

In addition I also found the death record for one of their children as well as the death record for Edmond, which I can also forward to you in a follow-up reply.

Regards,

Dave Boylan
