Annie Fealy

I wonder if anyone can unravel this puzzle. My GGG grandmother Annie Fealy was a 35 year old widow when she married Owen (Eugenis) Gartlan on 12.02.1868 The parish register is from St Endas parish, Clogher, Killanny. and states Annie was previously married to Thomas Fealy of Carrickmacross aged 23yrs 6 months and 1 day. Her father was Patrick Fealy ( so married name and maiden name was Fealy) Here's the puzzle; on  Annie & Owen's marriage certficate , it states they married at the residence of Annie ( not St Enda's) . Its so unusual to marry in a family home- infact Ive never come across it before. From what I can gather, Annie was a housekeeper , so not a lady of a large, grand house so what should I make of this discrepancy?

PS: Although I'm not 100% sure I have the correct Annie Fealy here, its all Ive got, so Im working with it for the time being..., Thanks for any help.

It was common through the first half of the 1800s.  But it's not unrealistic to think that it was done in 1868 as well.

Hi Patricia, It was common for a couple to marry in the home In Ireland ? Sorry to doubt you but are you absolutely sure ? In 15 years of genealogy research, I have never, ever come across this.

Bibs, Here is an article from the Irish Post, which says even up to the 1900s, home weddings were common in Ireland.
