Thomas and Bridget had at least five other children, baptized in Wicklow. This info is from the paid site RootsIreland.

The description of the location on the NLI system for that 1831 baptism is a little misleading – the parish and Church of St. Mary’s Haddington Road did not exist in 1831.  The earlier records in this collection actually relate to the older parish of ‘Donnybrook and Irishtown’  - named after the locations of the older chapels for the parish, neither of these older chapels survive - just part of one wall for the Donnybrook chapel is just visible to one side of Donnybrook graveyard.

Construction of the church at Haddington Road started in 1835, and the parish was established in about 1876 when it was split off from the parishes of 'Irishtown, Ringsend, Donnybrook/St. Mary's and Sandymount' . In the 1860s new Catholic Church was built in Donnybrook, and later a new Church was built at Ringsend.

Incidentally the baptisms in Co. Wicklow listed above  took place in Rathdrum RC parish, with a residence given on some of the records, e.g. John 17 November 1818, at ‘Copse’, which is a townland located a little to the north of the town of Rathdrum.

Good morning glanvil3@aol.com and shanew147,

Thank you for your very informative church records and the Church of St. Mary’s Haddington Road actual location.

The Rathdrum records confirm the family members of my Harmans. John Harman is my great-great grandfather who emigated to Australia in 1841.

He was married to Lucy Doyle of Tagmon Wexford in St. Paul's, Dublin, on 2 May 1841.

From my research Biddy born 1821 died 1826. The later Bridget emigated to Australia in 1850s as Bridget Farrell.

Additional John's father Thomas Harman emigrated to Australia sometime in the 1850s and died in Adelaide in John's residence in 1870 aged 76 years.

Now I am trying to ascertain what happened to Lawrence, Mary and Anne. Logic would say they followed their siblings to Australia, but then again they could haved stayed in Dublin or crossed the Atlantic.

Curiuosly family lore says Lawrence and John were named after the Wicklow 1798 rebels: John, Lawrence and Nicholas Harman

I will be in Ireland in early August.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks

Doug ( Perth Australia)
