Alicia Green 1839

I've been unable to find parents for my great grandmother born in Ireland in 1839, immigrated to Canada in 1842.  I don't know the area in which she was born.  The dates do not exactly suggest she was a famine orphan.  She married into my Dad's side of the family, wed to Thomas Olive.  Part of the problem in tracing her life is the various spellings of her first name which can be quite odd.

Of course it is possible the dates are wrong and she may have come over on one of the coffin ships, her parents dying on the way, but there should be records of her birth and parents somewhere in Ireland, shouldn't there?  I assume her parents would have been Catholic.  If not, might that explain why records are lacking?

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

Hi, Have you found Alicia in any Canadian censuses? What info do they give about her?

Have you seen her marriage record? What info does it provide?

Who were her children, in order?

Thanks.

The 1901 Canada census says Alicia was born 25 Dec. 1839:

I found on rootsireland.ie an Alicia Green born 22 Dec. 1839 and baptized 9 Dec. in Co. Offaly. (One of these dates must be incorrect…maybe she was baptized the 29th.)

Hi,

To clarify, records I have found on Ancestry show a Thomas Olive and Alicia Green belonging to the Church of England. There are trees on Ancestry for this family that suggest Alicia was born December 1839. I found on RootsIreland (paid subscription) an Alicia Green born in Dec, 1839 to John and Elizabeth Green in Shinroe, Offaly. Not necessarily your Alicia.

Thank you all for those responses.  I couldn't find anything on Ancestry about Alicia's parents or where in Ireland she was from.  On MyHeritage it states she died around 1900, but I found a Census that indicates at 71 she was a widow, head of her household, and employed operating a lathe.  I do have a copy of her husband's death certificate.

She had 13 surviving children according to my parents, but I haven't found a complete list.  My grandfather was Frederick.  I believe he was around 90 when he died--we had an El Nina winter and there was an Asian flu epidemic.  He was very active, though a bit deaf, and was coming back from visiting a friend when he was caught in a blizzard and developed pneumonia.  He was a blacksmith and farrier and worked for the CN Railway.  There's also a family story about how he met his wife Isabella at the fall fair in Carp, Ontario.  They both had crafting skills and I have some of the items they made.

I hope that wasn't too much information.

Warm regards

Marion
