Agnew Family - Ballynease MacPeake

Hi,

I am trying to locate anything on Manus (Manasses) Agnew (1824-1914) who married Ann (Nancy) Scullen (1831-1906) in Sept 1848 in County Londonderry (Inishrush). I am descendant and live in New Zealand and I have no way of trying to figure out their parents as online records are not available for these two.

They resided at Residents of a house 19 in Ballynease Macpeake (Bellaghy, Londonderry) in the 1901 Census.

I was hoping that being an unusual name like Manus it would be easy but alas I am at a deadend.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Kim

You might already have this info-

Manus and Nancys's children were all born in Bellaghy where Manus and Nancy were married. Per RootsIreland (paid subscription), their children were Bridget 1851, Patrick 1853, Hugh 1855, James 1858, Ann 1860, Henry 1862, I did not find Catherine who is on the 1901 census. Some sponsors were Rose, Patrick, James, and Jane Agnew. and Hugh and Daniel Scullen. In 1852 a James Agnew and Mary Scullen were married in Bellaghy and in 1857 Patrick Scullen and Catherine Agnew was married there.

1831 census of Co Derry has 3 Agnew households in Ballynease. Presumably one of them is your line:

https://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1831/Londonderry/Loughinsholin/Ballyscullion/Ballynease/161/

The last one, where head of household is James only has 1 male in it (which must be James) so probably isn’t yours.

From the numbering it looks as though the houses were all close to each other so the 3 households are probably related.

Hi Mary, thank you for all the information. Unfortunately I couldn't keep up with the price of the ancestry membership. Are there any sources that show Henry and Rose are Manus' parents? I will try and look again soon. Just trying to balance family, house and full time work.

Thanks again.

Kim

Sorry, as I mentioned before, Church records weren't kept until 1844. Manus was a farmer and based on Letitia's death record Henry was a merchant. He could have been both.
