I was not able to locate any baptismal records for Mary and Catherine in Co. Cork. However, I did find a family in Co. Waterford that had similar information. A John Morrissey and a Mary Murphy married February 16 1827 and had a daughter Catherine in 1828 and another daughter Mary in 1835 plus other children. You mention Glantane for John Morrisey but I could not find any info in that parish in Co. Cork. Can you indicate where you found John Morrissey in Glantane?

Roger , a second cousin of my late mother’s found the John Morrissey County Cork reference . I’ve copied it below for your perusal . On another note this same cousin found that a   John Morrissey and  Mary  Murphy married on Feb 26 1827 indeed in Tallow , Waterford and had 6 children between 1827 and 1846 although the eldest Honora is born on 4 Feb 1827 before the Feb 26 1827 marriage. Is it likely for a child born out of wedlock to be baptised and if so, is Honora likely to be eldest child born to John and Mary ? The other three children in addition to Honora , Catharine and Mary are Bridget (1838),James (1842) and Margaret (1846)? Are all six likely to have same parents . Cheers, TM

‘Tim, Glantane referred to a marriage between John Morris's and Mary Murphy on 14 February 1817. Found in roots Ireland.

One address for John Morrissey is from Griffiths valuation. County cork, barony muskerry east, union macroom, parish cannaway, downland ballygirriha, 1852.

The other one was county cork. Parish donaghmore, downland kilcullen. This came from national archives tithe applotment books for 1833.

Hope the above is what you meant.

Cheers, J.

The baptisms I located and the marriage match up with your info. Yes, the situation with Honora would be unusual but maybe they kept the situation quiet and the priest did not know.

marriage February 26 1827 Tallow RC church

Honor February 4 1827  Tallow RC church

Catherine July 6 1828 Knockanore RC church

Mary March 29 1835 Ballyporeen RC church

Bridget October 14 1838 Ballyporeen

James January 31 1842 Ballyporeen location Barnahown

Margaret September 20 1846 Ballyporeen

The baptismal record showed Barnahown as the location for the family. The RC parish of Ballyporeen/Templetenny is a border parish. Part of the boundaries for the parish were in Co. Waterford and part were in Co. Tipperary. Barnahown was actually in Co. Tipperary in the civil parish of Templetenny. I then checked the 1850 Griffiths Valuation head of household listing and there was a John Morrissey listed in Barnahown. I searched for civil death records starting 1864-1901 but did not find a good lead. Possibly this John died before 1864 and the church did not have death info.

Roger, much obliged. I'll add this information which cross references my own findings and I'll use it in my 2 h long appt w professional genealogist /librarian at NLI in Dublin on Nov 28 . Hopefully they'll be able to tell/ show me specific locations of John Morrissey farms between DoM  c. 1826- DoD (1855-1864)and inform me about parentage - did he inherit properties upon his father's DoD  and upon his father-in-law's death in Coolydoody where his wife, Mary Murphy was born in 1804 in Waterford?  Hi wife , Mary seems to have outlived her husband by at least 20 y , according to family anecdote but unsubstantiated atm .

What happened to property after her DoD- Did their only son , James 1842- >1901 census,  inherit same?

If needs be , I'll then go to Valuations Office in Dublin to find out more info around 1850's Griffith Valuations .  Cheers,  TM Australia

TM:

The Valuation office is the place to find out hoe property was passed from father to son, the year etc   Some counties (at least 16) have been digitized. The eventual plan is to place the information online but I think funding is the issue. The Northern Ireland records are online and have been for ten years or more.
