Migrated to/Born in UK

My Grandfather William Murphy was born in Ireland around 1880-1885. Records differ. I am trying to find his exact birth/baptism.

He left Ireland alone (or maybe with a brother - name unknown) and migrated to Mountain Ash, South Wales, where he met and married my Grandmother Ellen Hennessy. They married in 1908. His children always believed he was born in Kanturk, although I have since seen on the UK 1921 Census that, for the first time, he stated he was born in Banteer.  Anyone who might have more information is now deceased. We (the Grandchildren) should have asked more questions earlier!

Certainly the family were in written contact with a family in Kanturk who used to send William The Cork Avertiser regularly and also shamrocks on St. Patrick's Day.  My Uncle visited this family in the late 1940s and someone from there travelled to Wales to visit my Grandmother sometime after William's death in 1950. One of my cousins thinks she remembers a person called May from Kanturk being talked about by our Grandmother, and that May was the daughter of someone William called his Sister, but that she wasn't really. It seems that William never went back to Ireland.

There are so many William Murphys of course.  His father was stated to be called John on William's Marriage Certificate. There is no clue as to his Mother's name.

I am putting this on here in the vain hope that someone might remember something, eg an elderly person in their family being in contact with someone in Wales.  A very long shot of course!

Thanks for reading this.

Maureen Saunders.
