William McElroy was born in 1797 and married Elleanor Brennan in 1814 in Boyle Roscommon. Their daughter Susan McElroy was born in Boyle in 1824 and married Thomas H Smythe in 1846 in Boyle. I am a direct descendant and they are my GGG grandparents! Does anybody know of them? We have an extensive family tree but are very keen to find out more about the McElroy family.

County Roscommon, or Ros Comáin in Irish, is located in the western region of Ireland. We are home to the stunning Lough Key Forest Park and statistically, we are known to have the longest life expectancy of any county in Ireland! We look forward to helping you connect with your ancestors’ place of origin.

Religious Census of Killukin, Creeve & Tumna

In March 1766, the Irish House of Lords instructed Church of Ireland parish clergy to compile ‘a list of the several families in their parishes’ – to record the religion of the householders and to identify any Roman Catholic priests and friars living in their area. Irish Emigration to South Australia

IRISH EMIGRATION TO SOUTH AUSTRALIA We have watched, with the deepest interest, the free Emigration now in progress, under the auspices the Government, from this country to South Australia. Almost daily, for some weeks, have seen accounts of the transmission of numbers of orphans, of both sexes, from the various Workhouses to Plymouth, from whence they embark for their destination. Tho manner in which the Emigration of those poor children has been conducted*the admirable arrangements for their moral guardianship, as well upon the voyage as subsequently to their arrival in the Colony, are creditable in the highest degree the Colonial Secretary, Earl Grey, to the Colonial Land and Emigration Commissioners, the Irish Government, and, we roust add, to the Guardians of the Unions, who have given their cooperation. All those arrangements are fully described the following highly interesting official documents, which we have copied from the South Australian Government Gazette, dated the 24th August last:
