William Lahy, Sr., son of James Lahy, married Frances (Fanny) Wood in or before 1801. Fanny was born about 1781 and died in January 1826, leaving nine children living at home ranging in age from six to twenty. I didn't find a record of William remarrying, but it was likely he did. William was a tenant farmer in Mullaghboy and Killyfassy, following in his father's footsteps, working on the Farnham estate. James, William and Fanny, their nine children and four servants are listed on the 1821 Ireland Census. http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1821/Cavan/Ballymacue/Mullo…;

Their children were: William (Jr) born 1801 and married to Eliza Porter (born 1799) in 1819 in Ballymachugh. The immigrated to New York and Eliza died there in 1849. William remarried in 1850 in New York to Fanny Kilroy born in 1822. They had nine children together.

Letitia born 1802 married Francis Lahey/Lahy/Leahy. They immigrated from Aghafad, Ballymachughto Cold Spring, New York in the 1830s.

James born 1805 or 1806; John born 1807 or 1808; Robert born 1810; George born 1811-1812; Ann born 1813; Fanny born 1815; Alicia (Alley) and Margaret (twins) born 1817; Elizabeth (Betty) born 1820.

    Travelling Folk in the 1930s

Between 1937 and 1939, primary school pupils across the Republic of Ireland interviewed the elderly in their neighborhood to collect and record local stories and folklore from the 19th century. "The Schools Collection" as it became known is held by the Dúchas Folklore Collection in UCD and is and has been digitized online at duchas.ie. One of the topics schoolchildren were asked to write about were "Travelling Folk" or An Lucht Siúil.

Here is a selection of what "settled" children wrote about travelers in the late 1930s.
