William Gallagher was born in Fanat, Donegal, Ireland about 1831, to parents Edward Gallagher (B: Abt 1797 Ballynashanagh, Clondavaddog, Donegal, Ireland - D: 4 Apr 1879 Armidale N.S.W. Australia) and Jane McClure (B: Abt 1797 Ballynashanagh, Clondavaddog - D: 26 Dec 1886 Armidale N.S.W.). William, his father and brothers were all Blacksmiths.
William married Catherine Mooney (Abt 1835 - 16 Feb 1867) of Milford, Co. Donegal on the 30 Nov 1854. Family records say "They were married in C. of E. and Church of Rome, Fanat, Co. Donegal on the 30th Nov 1854. Death records say they were married in Rosnakil, Fanet. Catherine's parents were Thomas Mooney (B: Abt 1820 - ), a "Schoolmaster" and Margaret Clendenning.
The couple emigrated to Australia on the ship "Gloriana", leaving Dorset England on 12th April 1855, arriving in Sydney on 27 July 1855. William's 3 brothers, David (1834 - !907), Alexander (1837 - 1890) and Edward (1840 - 1902) followed them, arriving in Sydney on the "Sir John Moore", on the 22nd March 1863, William's parents later emigrated to Australia in August 1863.
William also had a sister, Sarah (1828 - ). Catholic Parish records show she married Maurice Kerr on the 24th February 1852 at Clondavaddog, Donegal. However, I dont have any record of them emigrating to Australia.
