When Thomas Aloysius Reilly was born on March 17, 1858, in Carlow, Carlow, Ireland, his father, Patrick, was 45 and his mother, Winifred, was 36. He married Anna (Annie) E Honohan Reilly O'Connor on September 17, 1883, in Chicago, Illinois. They had five children in 11 years. He died on April 5, 1903, in Chicago, Illinois, at the age of 45, and was buried in Evanston, Illinois.

Royal University of Ireland founded
<p>In accordance with the University Education (Ireland) Act 1879, The Royal University of Ireland was founded as an examining and degree-awarding university (based on the model of the University of London). A Royal Charter was issued on 27 April 1880 which entitled the Royal University to grant any degree, similar to that of any other university in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland (except in theology and divinity).</p>
