John J Mahon was born about 1830 likely in Athenry Parish, Co. Galway. A DNA cousin states her Mahons came from Athenry, Newcastle, Galway - this being my clue. He immigrated to the USA around 1845-1855. Due to the numerous John Mahon's that immigrated here, it is impossible for me to locate exactly when he arrived.
He married Alice Slattery - we don't know when or where, but believe in was in Minnesota, not yet a state at that time. Their children all were born in Stillwater, Washington Co., Minnesota, USA,
Children: twins Mary & Anna Mahon, Alice Cecelia Mahon, and Susan Mahon.
His 2nd wife was Matilda L. Jourdain. Together, they had 4 sons: John Jospeh, Joseph Alfred, Benjamin, and Benjamin - both of whom died in infancy.
When I was exploring the Athenry parish heritage at NUI in Dublin, I learned that in 1839 a Thomas Mahon's land was a location where lightening very often entered the ground! So I'm hoping I can trace back further for John's family in this parish.
