Richard was born in New York City, the first of nine children of William P. Lahy and Fanny Kilroy. After their father died in 1880, at some point the children started spelling their surname as Lahey. He married Elizabeth A. (Lizzie) Adams in 1889 and they had five children:
William Stewart Lahy born Oct 15, 1890 and died in WWI on 30 Oct 1918.
Martha Letitia and Richard Francis Lahey (twins) born 23 June 1893.
Walter Tabor Lahey born 30 Aug 1895 (my grandfather).
Elizabeth (Bess) Adams Lahey born 08 Mar 1899.
