Patrick Gorman was born in Baunmore Parish, Johnstown Co Kilkenny. His father was Timothy born Tipperary, died about 1878 and mother Bridget Hely b1816.

His siblings were Ellen b 1841, Micheal 1843-1924, James b 1846, Timothy b 1858, Judith b1853, Mary b1855, and William 1861.

He migrated to Australia in 1869, and married Mary Ann Lonergan in Melbourne Australia

My DNA matches provide a link to families with an Edmund Bergin married to a Mary Haley. I have a Kyran Bergin as a sponsor to Tim and Biddys child Judith, and Micheal Bergin and Catherine Lawler as William's sponsors, Edmund Bergin and Margaret Healy as Micheal's sponsor.

I would be grateful for any information regarding connections in the Gorman Bergin families?

    Travelling Folk in the 1930s

Between 1937 and 1939, primary school pupils across the Republic of Ireland interviewed the elderly in their neighborhood to collect and record local stories and folklore from the 19th century. "The Schools Collection" as it became known is held by the Dúchas Folklore Collection in UCD and is and has been digitized online at duchas.ie. One of the topics schoolchildren were asked to write about were "Travelling Folk" or An Lucht Siúil.

Here is a selection of what "settled" children wrote about travelers in the late 1930s.
