Patrick's parents: William and Margaret (Walsh) Gannon, both born in Ireland (County unknown).

Patrick had five known siblings: Bridget (b1835), Mary (b1840 - his twin), Margaret (b1844), Ann (b1845), John (b1848) - all born in Ireland.

Some time between 1848 and 1851, Patrick's father, William, died; the family migrated to Carlisle, Cumberland, England where Patrick and his siblings were married; most of the couples later emigrated to the United States and settled in New Bedford, Bristol, Massachusetts.

Other information about Patrick Gannon:

New Bedford Times, Saturday January 17, 1914
Foresters Delegation Attend Gannon Funeral
Funeral services for Patrick Gannon were conducted in St. Mary's Church this morning, Fr. Coffey officiating. The funeral took place from his late home at 869 County Street. Interment was at St Mary's Cemetery. The bearers were Peter J and Thomas Riley, and Michael and Thomas Sloane. A delegation from Court New Bedford No.69 F. of A., with which the deceased was affiliated, attended the funeral.

NOTE: The bearers were nephews of the deceased. The Rileys are sons of Patrick's sister, Bridget (Lizzie) Gannon Riley. The Sloanes are sons of Patrick's twin sister, Mary Gannon Sloane.
NOTE2: There are discrepancies in Patrick's year of birth. In fact, his death certificate states his age at death as "about," suggesting his year of birth to be 1846. However, more sources (Census reports from England and the USA) point to 1840 as his year of birth.

The family lived at 25 (or 28?) Church Street, Carlisle, England before coming to America in 1886.

Information obtained from England:
The directory of 1884 lists Patrick Gannon, cow keeper, of Queen Street, Carlisle, England. This residence is in the location of Holy Trinity Parish, but the church shows no Gannon baptisms between 1875 and 1885. It is not known for sure if this reference is of our family or not.

Marriage:

Year 1867, 8th July, I, Richard Davis, joined in marriage Patrick Gannon of Milbourne Street, son of William Gannon, and Elizabeth Flinn, of Simpsons Lane, Caldewgate, daughter of Patrick Flynn, Our Lady and St. Joseph's Church, Carlisle, England.

Patrick and Elizabeth (Flinn) Gannon had seven children, all born in Carlisle, England: Mary, Margaret, James, William, Elizabeth, John and Helen.

According to the England Census of 1881, Patrick was born in 1840-1841 in Ireland, and was living at 3 Queen St., Caldewgate, Cumberland, England. His occupation was listed as carter. A carter is "one who carries or conveys as in a cart"; his age is listed as 40 years. Similarly, subsequent Census reports match the year or birth. However, the US Census of 1910 stage his age as 65 years, yet the US Census of 1900 stages his age as 60 years, following suit with the Census of England.
