Migrated to New York/Born in Ireland

Patrick Dorgan was the son of Laurence Dorgan and Ellen Healy, Baptized 11 Apr1830 in Blarney, Cork, Ireland. The sponsors were, John Maley, and Catherine Healy.  I found a declaration of intent to become a citizen from Dane County, Wisconsin from 5 Sep 1854. This document lists that Patrick left Ireland in July 1852, and entered New York, New York in August 1852. His citizenship was not completed.  A marriage record was found 25 Sep 1978 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Honesdale, Pennsylvania on 13 Mar 1853 to Julia Connel by Rev. J. Powers. Witnesses were Jeremiah Dorgan (older brother) and Helen O'Connell (possibly Johanna Connell, Julia's older sister and wife of Jeremiah). Patrick was found on the 1855 Wisconsin State census in Madison, Dane, Wisconsin, living next door to his brother, Jeremiah Dorgan, and William Conners, whose wife was Patrick and Jeremiah's sister, Johanna.  On 15 May 1857, Patrick entered a homestead in section 33, Richland County, Wisconsin. On the 1860 U.S. census, Patrick was living in Ithaca township, Richland County, Wisconsin with his wife Julia, and daughters Ellen, Maria, Margaret, and Julia. A fifth daughter, Catherine was born in 1863.  Patrick enlisted in Company H, 36th Regiment, Wisconsin Infantry on 29 Feb 1864. He was captured on 25 Aug 1864, and died in a prisoner of war camp in Salisbury, North Carolina, on 3 Dec 1864. He left a wife and five daughters, who received a pension of ten dollars a month.  Patrick has a tombstone in St, Mary's Cemetery in Keyesville, Wisconsin, but was probably buried in North Carolina.  Patrick and Julia were my great great grandparents.
