My grandfather (so I recall) was born on or very near Achill Island. He emigrated to the USA, possibly via Canada, and settled in Cleveland, OH, USA. His wife was Mary Keating nee Madden (born 1905, died 1958). His son Hubert was born about 1930, also a daughter Mary Margaret or Margaret Mary (Peggy). He died in 1964.

Lastly, I was often told that the family name was Cattigan, and that grandfather entered through Ellis Island in New York -- but neither of these are known facts to me.

    Kildavnet Freeholders List

A unique Census Substitute for the townland of Carrickkildavnet aka Kildavnet in 1829. This Freeholders List can provide useful information about those who held enough land to register to vote. While the smaller tenant farmers who suffered most during the Great Famine won't appear on this list, there may be a few surprises included here (that didn't appear on Tithe applotment records). These could be partners on a freehold lease. Can you find your ancestor's name below?

    Patrick Henry O'Melia

Patrick was supposedly born 3/17/1839. However, I have been told that many children who did not know their birthdates used St. Patrick's Day. Patrick supposedly emigrated to Canada or the U.S. when he was age 7. His father passed away when he was age 3 and his mother passed away either in crossing of the Atlantic Ocean or shortly after arrival in Canada or the U.S.
