Frances "Fanny" McDonnell was born in Tarmon, Knock, Co. Clare on 11 Nov 1887, to Michael McDonnell and Jane Mahony. Fanny married her next-door neighbour John Patrick "JP" or "Jack" O'Leary on 10 Jun 1906, in Tarmon. She worked as a seamstress and had 12 children, of which 11 lived to adulthood. The first seven children were born in Tarmon, and in 1914 the family relocated to another creamery at Bunkey Bridge in Annacotty, Co, Limerick. The remaining five children were born there, and one of them, John Gerrard, died age 3 of bronchopneumonia. Five children emigrated to America, two emigrated to England, and the last five remained in Ireland. The family moved to Rossmore, in Clonoulty, Co. Tipperary in 1928 when Jack again moved to be creamery manager there. Fanny remained in Rossmore until after Jack's death in 1967, when she moved to Naas, Co. Kildare to live with daughter Bridget O'Leary Dwyer until her death from myocarditis on 6 May 1972, aged 84.
