Samuel Birchill, my Great, Great Grandfather was baptised in the Parish of Skibbereen & Rath, in the Townland of Coronea on 13th June 1830. His parents were Abraham Birchill and Catherine Hurley. His brothers were Richard (1827), John (1829), Thomas (1836) and Abraham (1843). His sisters were Mary, the eldest born 1824 and Catherine, 1832.
Samuel and his brother John were transported to Tasmania, Australia in 1851 on the Blenheim, leaving the Port of Cork on 29 July 1851. They arrived in Hobart, Tasmania on 31 October 1851.
Samuel married Ann Morgan in the Catholic Church in Swansea, Tasmania on the 30 March 1856. They had 7 children.
Samuel died in Hobart on May 26 1904, aged 71 years.
