Migrated to/Born in USA

The Armagh Catholic civil marriage record of Martha Connor and Michael McGeeney shows that they were married 06/02/1868 in the Roman Catholic Chapel of Armagh. Her address is shown as Corr and her father's name is Bernard, a farmer. She was at least 21 years old, so she was probably born in December of 1846 or earlier.

She and Michael went to Scotland for awhile where their first son, James, was born in 1869. By October of 1872 they were living in Doniphan County, Kansas where their second son, John, was born. They gradually moved west, county by county, until they ended up in Marshall County, Kansas.

Martha had 2 sisters living nearby in Kansas. Her sister Mary Elizabeth might have traveled to America with Martha and Michael since she reported on the 1910 U.S. census that she had immigrated in 1871. Another sister, Elizabeth Bridget (Bessie), reported on the 1920 U.S. census that she had immigrated in 1880. They also had a brother, Patrick, who possibly lived for awhile in Kansas but died in Fort Worth, Texas in 1908.
