Michael is my great great grandfather and I know little about his Irish roots.
There were no names of his parents listed on his marriage or death certificates in Australia. The only hint we have is that it states he was from Galway, Ireland. I believe he emigrated to Australia in the 1860's either to Melbourne or Sydney. He lived and worked as a miner in north-east Victoria for almost the entire time he was in Australia (50 years).
His surname is spelt FAHEY however I have DNA matches with folk with it spelt FAHY.
I hypothesize that his surnames spelling changed on arrival in Australia. I also think that his siblings may have emigrated to the USA as there appears to be no sign of any relatives in Australia when he was here.
Any help or pointers that could be provided would be most welcome.
